Independence Day

Old Glory flies from the deck of our cottage on Cedar Lake, Sturbrdge. Friends arrive for a cookout. At dusk, we will paddle canoes to the middle of the lake to watch home-launched aerial fireworks. First we pledge to our flag, "one nation under God." But we are not one nation under God. There are those in America who take offense at the word God. They are very vocal. What must God think?

"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
(2 Chronicles 7:14)
