Ice Storm

January 28,2014

CRACK, THUD! A huge ice laden branch falls from the Elm and is imbedded into the ground
exactly where I had been standing moments earlier. I stare in disbelief at this limb which is
about my height and half my width.

Some would say "Thank your lucky stars." I say luck and stars has nothing to with it.

",,,the very hairs of your head are numbered. Do not fear therefore..."

Locked Out

January 19, 2014

I couldn't open the trunk of my car with the usual key, I was about to call a locksmith when I notice another key hanging on the key rack. I tried it. Presto, the trunk opened.

For the longest time I was using the wrong key to open the doors of my life. How about you?

"I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14;6)

Are We God's Image?

January 17,2017
Genesis says God created man in His image. Do we see God in our image rather than seeing ourselves in His image? We limit God when we worry, doubt or fear. We hold God in our image when we feel lost or defeated, are angry or prideful.  The Prophet Isaiah knew in whose image
he was created.

"Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint." (Isaiah 40:31)

Are you ashamed?

January 15,2014

Ever done anything that you have real guilt feelings about even today? Something you are ashamed about. You are not alone. God knows our past. But feel guilt no longer.

"For by grace you have been saved through faith and not of yourselves, it is a gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Whose your neighbor?

January 14,2014

It was my first day as an intern on a small daily newspaper. I heard the publisher yell "Whose old Plymouth is parked out front." It was mine. I moved it. Later the city editor took me to the back
of the building, We looked down at an empty parking lot behind a Temple. "You park there," he said, "and if anyone says anything tell them Abe sent you. Abe was my neighbor that day.

When a lawyer asked Jesus, "Who is my neighbor?", Jesus told the story of the Good Samaritan.
Then Jesus asked who was the neighbor. The lawyer answered, "The one who showed mercy."

Jesus ended the conversation by saying, "Go and do likewise." (Luke 10:36-37)

My dog teaches me a lesson

January 10, 2014

Dusty was the family dog. Named for his dull brown coat, this little hound was so focused smelling a trail that one day at a park he walked right by a rabbit sitting on a rock. We all laughed but later I thought about that moment and wondered am I so focused on the world that I don't lookup and see the Prize.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)

Our planet, God and space

January 7, 2014

John Glenn, the first American to orbit our planet and see it from space, put it all in perspective
for me when he said, "Looking at the earth from this vantage point and to not believe in God, to
me, is impossible."

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." (Genesis 1:1)

ps If you don't believe the first four words of Genesis 1 you'll have trouble with the rest of the Bible.

Leaving Home

January2, 2014

A walk about the neighborhood reveals a little boy pulling a wagon with a parent standing in the doorway. "Leaving home are we?" I ask. The parent nods. On my return I note the wagon by the
front door. It occurs to me that what the boy really wants to know is that his parents still love him.

Haven't most of us rebelled and walked away from our heavenly Father at some point. Like the boy
we don't get very far on our own. Don't we want to know that God still loves us. He tells us daily
if only we would listen.

"God's faithful love endures forever." (Psalm 136:1)

For you this year

January 1, 2014

Happy New Year.

"It is good for me to draw near to God:
I have put my trust in the Lord God,
and I will tell everyone about the
wonderful things You do." Psalm 73:28

That's what this blog is all about.
